Diet: A Way of Life (diaita)

Diet originally means a way of life, the way one lives and eats. The Greek word diaita stands for the whole conduct of life. It has nothing to do with a slimming regime.

Where the word comes from

Basket with fresh vegetables and fruit

Diaita means way of life, manner of living. Physicians like Hippocrates meant by it the whole conduct of life: food, movement, sleep, measure. It was a wide, calm word for a life in order, not a program of prohibitions.

Why it is misunderstood

Whole grain bread and grains on wood

Today “diet” means a low-calorie regime of deprivation and bad conscience. That meaning is young. It comes from the marketing of the 20th century, the word for diet cola dates from 1963. A whole way of life became a temporary program that you hold out and then break.

What the Bible Diet means

The Bible Diet is a diaita in the old sense: a way of eating and living that grows out of the truth. No counting, no forbidding, no guilt. Just one direction: closer to the whole, as it was created, further from the factory. That takes the pressure off immediately.

Why that sets you free

A regime ends, a way of life stays. Whoever understands diet again as the conduct of life has nothing to overturn overnight and nothing to hold out. One step after another, and compulsion becomes a habit that carries you. Eat and live the way you’re built.

In one sentence

Diet originally means way of life (diaita), not a regime. The Bible Diet is a way of eating and living that grows out of the truth and stays.
