Healing belongs to God’s very name. At the beginning he introduces himself as YHWH Rofe, the LORD, your physician. It is not a coincidence and not a miracle at the margins, but part of his nature.
Where the Word Comes From
“I am the LORD, your physician” (Exodus 15:26). In Hebrew: ani YHWH rofecha, from the root rafa, which means to heal, to mend, to restore, to make whole. God carries healing in his name. Later this becomes one of the great names of God, Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals.
What Often Gets Shortened
Healing is readily declared a rare exception, a stroke of luck you can hardly expect. Scripture speaks differently. Healing is paid for in the work at the cross: “by his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:5). That stands there as a fact, not as a distant possibility. It belongs to what is already finished.
What the Bible Means
A human being is first spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. “The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies” (Romans 8:11). That is why healing often begins at the root, in the heart and in the connection to love, and works from there into the body. The heart is the place where it is received.
Why This Sets You Free
Because healing belongs to God’s nature, you do not have to beg for it. You may ask for it and receive it as a child, with thanksgiving instead of fear. That takes out the pressure and the despair. The gaze moves away from the mere symptom toward the source that wants to make whole.
